He was admitted to the psychiatric ward four weeks ago with a manic episode and was treated with Olanzapine. He was discharged a few weeks ago and has been stable since. His previous manic episode three years ago was treated acutely, but he declined ongoing medication. Your consultant has discussed starting lithium for mood stabilisation and relapse prevention. Your task is to: Explain lithium treatment, address his concerns and answer his questions, support shared decision making.
